19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid season, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of that year.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an better serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, securing four of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent saved four early chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, he earned the title with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
