Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack made him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
